Privacy Policy
Last Updated: May 28, 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to Folder Preview. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding information collected from users of our macOS application and Quick Look Finder Extension (collectively, the "Service").
2. Zero Data Collection & Offline-First
Folder Preview operates 100% locally and offline. We believe that your file structure and metadata are your own private business.
- No Server Communication: The application does not communicate with any external servers, APIs, or cloud services.
- No Analytics: We do not include any tracking software, telemetry libraries, or third-party analytics SDKs.
- No Personal Information: We do not collect, store, transmit, or share your names, email addresses, usage profiles, or system identifiers.
3. File & Directory Access
Folder Preview integrates with Finder via the standard macOS Quick Look Extension API.
- User-Triggered Execution: The extension is only activated when you select a folder and explicitly press the Spacebar or ⌘ + Y.
- Local Metadata Analysis: The extension reads the directory contents (filenames, sizes, hidden status) to build the preview. This information is processed in memory on your Mac and is immediately discarded when the Quick Look window is closed. It is never written to disk or sent over a network.
4. macOS App Sandboxing
Folder Preview is built with strict compliance to Apple's sandboxing security rules. It operates under standard user permissions and only reads folder structures that you grant access to within Finder. It has no network entitlements.
5. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
